Commemorative plaque marking the mobilisation of the Brabant-Limburg border troops, produced in 1939 by De Sphinx (formerly Petrus Regout en Co) and marked “1-26 R.I.” (1-26 Regiment Infantry). The plaque pays tribute to our Dutch soldiers. These heroes were called up in 1939 to defend their country against a German invasion (1940).
Hundreds of them were killed or wounded. The troops in southern Limburg ultimately delayed the German advance by around 24 hours. The plaque features a Dutch lion. It is surrounded by a wreath of laurel and oak leaves with the text:
Mobilisation of Brabant-Limburg Border Troops 1939. The commemorative plaque is in good condition!
